One of the most important branches of support to operational forces in field, especially as regards the army is indisputably the engineer corps. The key task of engineer units is carrying out construction works with which they contribute to development of the armed forces within their specialty in the best possible way.
As regards the Guards Armored Mechanized Brigade, the Engineer Battalion is responsible for carrying out those and other similar activities. It was established during the reform in 2008 and most of their members, almost 90 percent come from the former 30th engineer brigade and engineer company of the 3rd GAMBR. The basic postulate of this unit that characterizes the engineer corps is, as they say 3 Ps - mobility, counter mobility and survival.
They are stationed in the barracks Bosut in Vinkovci and they are often in several fields at the same time and in such working conditions the manner of commanding and leading the unit is specific. Otherwise, engineer battalion consists of two engineer and one pioneer company and three independent platoons ? a platoon for bridging over, logistic and command platoon. They are very mobile and with regard to the tasks they carry out they spend a fair amount of personal equipment; however, as the Commander of the battalion mentioned, their level of training, efficiency and quality are self-evident. For example, in the course of the last year they carried out their activities in almost 30 fields. They were directly responsible for 25 of them while in others they provided assistance in men and materiel.
The efficiency of the Engineer battalion has increased by 100 percent with four new machines they received and two new CAR D6 are among them. Further modernization of the Engineer battalion will be linked to realization of their Partnership Goal that is exactly connected with developing their key capabilities of mobility, counter mobility and survival.
