Final preparations of the 8th HRV MLOT that belongs to structure of the Military Intelligence Battalion for the mission ISAF are carried out at training area "Eugen Kvaternik" in Slunj. Seven chosen will be sent to Afghanistan within regular rotation and preparations at Slunj are a specific end of their six months training cycle. Final training is carried out by specialized teams according to particular areas and its focus was practice of the operational techniques and tactics, in day and night patrols, practice of the negotiation techniques with local population and establishing relationship with them so that they would be able to obtain top quality information. They also conducted instinctive and situational day and night firing practice from personal weapons as well as firing from anti-armour means of combat and they also underwent training in procedures in case they come across improvised mine explosive devices. An integral part of the training is also practice reactions on contact, ambush, and much attention is given to training drivers. Of course, all that is done in conditions as realistic as possible.
MLOT is, we remind you, an operational part of the military component of the PRT. Croatian MLOT is in structure of the PRT in Chaghcharan in Ghowr province in which Lithuania is the lead nation, and members of this team come from the armed forces of the USA, Denmark and Ukraine. Some of their assignments are patrolling that is carried out in one day, at night, during several days with objective to establish and maintain contact with local population; they also execute tasks as observation of a particular area, securing the airport, protection of the VIP and official personnel, control of checkpoints with Afghan police. They are distinctly mobile and can operate independently of the PRT. They carry out patrolling in settlements so as to gather information, assess deficiencies and advantages of the area, all with objective to provide support to Afghan government in restoring and establishing authority in the area of their operation. They have to be ready and have quality-equipment for independent stay on terrain, independently of weather conditions.
The preparation and training of the MLOT teams for the mission ISAF is only one in a series of assignments of the Military Intelligence Battalion. In addition to the mentioned task, members of the MIB of the Croatian Army also participate in implementation of the joint task within Croatian-American CS OMLT team and actively participate in providing training to other components of the CR CON for the mission ISAF, and above all, they carry out all their tasks in homeland in terms of quality.
